SPECIFIC ACHIEVEMENTS OF THE DEPARTMENT / CENTRE
- The Department of Linguistics, University of Kashmir in collaboration with Central Institute of Indian Languages- Mysore and Urdu Teaching and Research Centre, Lucknow organized a three day National Seminar on the theme “Advances in Linguistics and Language Development in J&K State with Special Emphasis on Tribal Languages of the State” from 14- 16 November, 2011 at University of Kashmir, Srinagar. In the backdrop of the linguistic, ethic and cultural diversity of Jammu and Kashmir state and in the light of the need and relevance of linguistic studies in the context of modern technological revolution, the need was been felt to organize a three day seminar on the aforesaid theme to focus broadly on the following issues.
To deliberate on the themes like Language Contact, Language Technology, Languages
a) To deliberate on the latest issues and trends of linguistics.
b) To deliberate on the specific linguistic issues like language contact, language typology and language technology relevant in the context of linguistic situation of the state.
c) To deliberate on the issue from language standardization and language modernization of the languages of Jammu and Kashmir state.
d) To deliberate on the identification , classification and description of Tribal languages of the state.
- The Department published its fourth volume of the journal entitled ‘Interdisciplinary Journal of Linguistics’ in 2011.
- The Department of Linguistics, University of Kashmir in collaboration with ILMT, CLIA, EILMT and Indradhanush Wordnet Project Consortium, organized a two-day workshop on “Multi Word Expressions” at University of Kashmir from 14-15 October, 2011.
- The Department is going to initiate part-time diploma in Linguistics/Translation /Spoken English, the syllabus in this regard has been formulated.
